The size of the paper is in a 4:3 aspect ratio, in order to tie back to visual elements within the film. While the movie has shots in both 16:9 and 4:3, the later of the two ratios is used within the film to express discovery, truth, and a more accurate reality. Because the ultimate goal of Used To Be One Of The Rotten ones was to depict the process of self-acceptance, the use of this aspect ratio further communicates this message to the reader.
In addition, the stipple paper serves as a tangible texture to the reader, and adds depth to the printed designs. It is meant to represent and reinforce the television as static motifs seen within the story.
